June Event | September Event
Greencrest is comfortably located adjacent to beautiful and historic Palmer Park. However, it is important to note that we are located in a “wildland/urban interface” which means that we are in an area with a high risk of wildfires. It is critical for us in Greencrest to take proactive action to minimize our risk and to have an emergency plan in place to protect ourselves and our homes from the hazards of wildfires.
Fortunately, the Greencrest Board of Directors has established and fostered a continuing partnership with the CSFD Wildfire Ready Program to develop our neighborhood FireWise Program. Homeowners are encouraged to participate in the program by trimming vegetation on their properties. Material is picked up and shredded by our Fire Department staff, free of charge. The event(s) costs individual homeowners nothing but time to work on their own property.
Our program and successful annual event has resulted in national recognition by award of the “FireWise Communities/USA” status and a formal Resolution of Recognition by the Colorado Springs City Council. See our award here.
